Antique R.E. Dietz Junior Wagon Lamp, an early kerosene wagon/side lantern made for use on horse-drawn wagons, buggies and carriages.
This unusual example retains its large metal rear reflector/shield with red glass bullseye lens, clear main globe, burner/fount assembly, mounting hardware and handle.
The rear reflector is embossed “JUNIOR WAGON LAMP” around the red bullseye, and the fuel tank is embossed “DIETZ” and “JUNIOR.”
Based on the Junior Wagon Lamp designation and early construction features, including the small red bullseye and filler/tank configuration, this example appears consistent with an early 20th-century Dietz Junior Wagon Lamp, likely circa 1914–1915. Exact manufacturing date has not been confirmed.
The clear globe is unmarked. It has a small bubble within the glass and two vertical mold/seam lines. Because the globe is unmarked, I cannot guarantee that it is the original factory-installed globe.
Condition: This lantern is being offered in as-found antique condition and has not been restored. It shows considerable age-related oxidation, surface rust, finish loss, discoloration, dirt, scratches and patina throughout, as expected from a utilitarian piece of this age.
The wick adjustment/rotator does not currently turn with gentle pressure. I have intentionally not attempted to force it due to the age of the mechanism. The burner, wick mechanism and fuel system have not been serviced or tested.
Lantern is therefore being sold untested and as an antique collectible/display piece, with functionality not guaranteed.
The clear globe and red bullseye lens are present as pictured. Please closely review all photographs for condition, completeness and the exact components included.
