Up for sale is a spectacular, large-scale piece of authentic American folk art from the early 20th century. This stunning 12.5-inch antique Art Nouveau pyrography (wood-burned) bowl features a beautifully executed, hand-rendered design of blooming poppies and structured foliage.
Design & Craftsmanship:
The center of the bowl showcases prominent poppy petals with their original vibrant red pigment still wonderfully intact. The background is heavily textured with extensive, hand-hammered stippling (indents) that creates beautiful contrast against the smooth floral elements. The outer rim is framed with an intricate, notched-carve border.
The underside of the bowl features a distinct, hand-carved artisan studio mark reading "STK" or "SK" nestled inside a structured square frame, surrounded by beautifully radial, carved fluting.
Size Note:
At 12.5 inches in diameter, this is a premium, massive centerpiece-scale bowl. It is significantly rarer than the common 6-to-8-inch trinket plates typically found from this era, making it an excellent display piece or a focal point for a collection.
Condition:
This bowl is in good antique condition for its age (approx. 100+ years old).
• The wood is solid and completely structurally intact with no major cracks or splits.
• It sits flat on a surface with no notable warping.
• The hand-painted red coloration on the flowers remains visible and charmingly patinated.
• It has been carefully dusted and conditioned with food-grade mineral oil to protect the wood fibers and bring out a rich, deep chocolate glow.
