Antique 19th-century hand-painted toleware tin box featuring a wonderful stylized folk-art bird surrounded by floral and foliate decoration on a dark ground, with a hand-painted red border.

Constructed of sheet metal with a hinged lid. The painted surface shows substantial age-related wear, paint loss, oxidation, scratches and surface deterioration throughout, as shown in the photographs. The interior also shows considerable wear. The aged, unrestored surface is an important part of the character of the piece.
