DescriptionPublished in 1928 (Showa 3), this non-commercial Japanese photo book introduces the Imperial Palace and other important sites connected with the Japanese Imperial Household.The original title is:“Imperial Palace Photo Album – Photographs Supplied by the Imperial Household Ministry, with Shinjuku Gyoen and Meiji Shrine.”It was published by the Dai Nippon National Education Association.One of the most interesting features of this book is that the photographs were supplied by the Imperial Household Ministry, rather than being ordinary tourist photographs.The book includes views of the Imperial Palace, Nijubashi Bridge, ceremonial halls, Imperial entrances, palace interiors, gardens, Akasaka Palace, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Shinjuku Gyoen, and Meiji Shrine.Some of the buildings and interiors shown here can no longer be seen today in exactly the same form, making this an interesting visual record of Japan’s Imperial world in the late 1920s.The year 1928 is also historically significant.Hirohito had succeeded his father, Emperor Taisho, in 1926 and had only recently become Emperor.
