Antique 1914 University of Illinois Interclass Track Meet 2nd Prize Medal – Named (H. Carpenter) – Maker Marked Wm. Schridde Chicago
Up for sale is an incredible piece of early collegiate sports memorabilia: an authentic 1914 University of Illinois Interclass Meet award medal. This rare artifact was awarded over 110 years ago to an athlete competing for the Fighting Illini.
Design Details:
- Front: Features a unique flower/scalloped border with the words \"University of Illinois * Interclass Meet \". The center contains a crisp, high-relief laurel wreath framing a beautifully preserved dark-enameled U of I institutional seal (\"Chartered 1867\"*).
- Back: Distinctly hand-engraved with the award details: \"2nd PRIZE RUNNING BROAD JUMP 1914 WON BY H. CARPENTER\".
- Maker Mark: Stamped clearly at the base on the reverse by the historic manufacturer \"WM. SCHRIDDE CHICAGO\", known for high-relief, premium quality dies during the Arts & Crafts movement.
Condition:
Excellent vintage/antique condition. This piece retains a gorgeous natural aged brass/bronze patina and has not been aggressively cleaned, preserving its historical integrity. The enamel inlay on the front seal remains fully intact and clear. Includes its original suspension loop ring at the top.
