Beautiful antique family photograph album dating from the late 19th through early 20th century, preserved as an assembled family archive. The album features an ornate floral-covered exterior, decorative metal clasp hardware, and exceptionally attractive gold-gilt / gold-leaf decorated album pages with elaborate period floral designs. Inside are original mounted photographs spanning multiple generations, including cabinet/card-style portraits and later photographs. Several images retain handwritten family identifications and dates, including a striking 1892 family portrait and an identified 1920 Banff photograph captioned “Aunt Kitty & Mom 1920 Banff.”
A wonderful piece of Victorian/Edwardian photographic, genealogical and social history, with the photographs remaining together in their original period album. The combination of identified subjects, dated photographs, gilt decorative pages and original album presentation makes this especially appealing as an intact historical archive. Album shows authentic age-related wear, including wear to the binding, pages, mounts and exterior, with some empty/damaged photo openings as pictured. Please review all photographs carefully for contents and condition. Sold complete and exactly as found; photographs have not been separated from the album.
