Antique Thatcher’s Sugar of Milk Baking Powder cardboard canister from H.D. Thatcher & Co., Potsdam, New York. Features colorful period advertising with cow and grape graphics and a reference to the “Highest Diploma at World’s Fair—Chicago.” Label also references Thatcher’s March 4, 1890 U.S. patent and May 20, 1891 Canadian patent. Original illustrated lid remains present.
Historical note: Dr. Hervey D. Thatcher of Potsdam, New York was a pioneering figure in sanitary milk packaging and became widely known as the “father of the milk bottle.” In addition to his work with milk containers, Thatcher developed and patented his Sugar of Milk Baking Powder in 1890. H.D. Thatcher & Co. exhibited the baking powder at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

Measures approximately 3 7/8” tall x 2 7/8” in diameter.
Shows considerable age-related wear, including toning/discoloration, staining, scuffs, creasing, edge wear, tears and areas of paper loss, particularly around the upper portion and rims. One notable scuff/mark on front label. Lid and container show wear and some deformation. Interior has general age/storage wear. Graphics remain vibrant and display nicely despite the condition.
