Antique 1890 Pastime Plug Tobacco Large Store Display Counter Tin - John Finzer & Bros.
For sale is a rare, authentic late 19th-century Victorian-era large store display counter tin for Pastime Plug Tobacco. Manufactured by John Finzer & Bros. in Louisville, Kentucky, with the lithography done by Ginna & Co. of New York.
This iconic tin features striking reddish-orange and black graphics depicting a hunter with a shotgun alongside his hunting dog tracking wild game. The sides feature the bold "Pastime Plug Tobacco - The Essence of Excellence" banner, along with original factory tax text details ("Factory No. 3, 5th District Kentucky"). The interior lid retains a portion of its original light green label.
Dimensions: Large size measuring approximately 12.5 inches wide, 9.25 inches across, and 4 inches tall.
Condition Notes: This item is over 130 years old and is being sold in heavily distressed, primitive antique condition exactly as found. As is typical for Ginna tins of this era, there is significant flaking, chipping, and paint loss to the lithograph across the top lid, base, and sides (please carefully review all photos to evaluate the visual condition). The metal has a dark, rustic oxidized patina and scattered light surface rust. Structurally, the box remains solid—the hinges operate well, the front latches are fully intact and functional, and there are no large structural holes. A fantastic, highly graphic piece of rustic Americana for primitive country decors or serious tobacciana collections!
Shipping: Will be wrapped securely and shipped in a sturdy box with tracking. Please message me with any questions before offerding.
