For Collectors:
This patch earns its sunset design completely and beautifully. Albuquerque is New Mexico\'s largest city, situated in the Rio Grande valley beneath the dramatic Sandia Mountains -- a setting that produces some of the most spectacular sunsets in the American Southwest. The Sandia Mountains take their name from the Spanish word for watermelon, a reference to the extraordinary pink and red hues the mountains turn at sunset -- a natural light show that residents and visitors alike regard as one of the defining experiences of life in Albuquerque. The patch\'s sunset-over-the-city design captures that signature Albuquerque atmosphere with vivid color and genuine regional authenticity.
Albuquerque is also one of the most culturally rich cities in the Southwest, with deep roots in Native American, Spanish colonial, and American frontier history, and a thriving contemporary arts and culture scene. Its police department patches carry strong collector appeal among Southwest collectors and New Mexico enthusiasts, and the exceptional color palette of this particular design gives it broad visual appeal well beyond geographic specialty collectors.
