Matching pair of vintage Esso gasoline dealer promotional sewing-needle books, circa 1960s.Each bright red cover reads “Compliments of your Esso dealer” and features the Esso Oil Drop Man mascot surrounded by stylized needles and thread. The interiors contain colorful metallic foil sections holding assorted nickel-plated, rustproof gold-eye needles and are marked Japan.Both books retain numerous original needles, although the exact contents have not been counted and completeness is not guaranteed. The central silver-foil sections are present in both examples.The paper covers exhibit minor age-related edge and corner wear, light creasing, scuffs and small marks. The interior cards and foil sections also show normal age and handling wear. The red advertising graphics remain bright and attractive.An appealing pair for collectors of Esso, Standard Oil, service-station advertising, petroliana, vintage sewing notions or Japanese advertising ephemera.Both needle books shown are included.
