ORIGINAL Rare Antique Capon Springs 5 Gallon Jug
with an embossed Indian head design!
Here’s a gorgeous piece of history! This 5 Gallon aqua glass water jug was used to transport “naturally healing” water from Capon Springs, WV in the 19th or early 20th Century! This antique bottle features an embossed Indian head with “Cacapaon” written on the side!
Capon Springs mineral water was known for its healing powers and was in high demand in the 19th Century. The spring is naturally alkaline, at a pH of 7.2, which likely helped with dyspepsia after eating.
This bottle has a CCW on the bottom. I am unable to find much information about the bottle manufacturer, but it was likely local to West Virginia. This bottle likely dates to ca. 1870 and is an original antique item!
Condition:
This bottle is in very good condition! The bottle has some light surface wear on the bottom and some light debris inside the bottle. A very collectible and display-worthy piece of 19th c. Americana!
