Mid-19th Century American Britannia Metal - Pewter Flagon
Antique American flagon in Britannia metal, mid-19th century, made in the style associated with Taunton, Massachusetts makers such as Reed & Barton.
Measures approx. 10.5\" tall. Classic tapered form with domed hinged lid, scroll handle, and flat openwork thumbpiece. Constructed from sheet Britannia metal with cast handle and fittings.
Unmarked, but consistent with known examples of church and institutional flagons from the period. These were commonly used for communion or related service ware, though also made in similar forms for general use.
Surface retains a nice original aged finish with light wear, including minor denting to the base and slight crinkling at the spout, consistent with age. Lid and hinge function properly. Green streaks on the flagon are just reflections. Nice honest piece of pre- Civil War American metalware.
Heavy, weighs just under 3 pounds.
