With her hands crossed over her heart and a serene, contemplative expression, this sculpture beautifully captures the Virgin Mary's quiet sorrow and steadfast faith.
Expertly carved from wood and retaining its original hand-painted polychrome finish, the figure displays the warmth, character, and craftsmanship collectors seek in authentic nineteenth-century devotional sculpture. Condition
Good antique condition with honest wear consistent with age and devotional use. The original polychrome surface remains intact with expected paint loss, surface wear, scattered nicks, and age-related patina throughout. There are historic mounting holes and losses along the right shoulder and upper arm where decorative elements were once attached, as well as additional areas of wear consistent with a well-loved devotional object.
