Vintage 1970s Danish Mid-Century Modern studio ceramic plate or shallow bowl features a deeply tactile abstract design from Axella Design. The piece highlights a striking central motif of overlapping geometric circles and incised vertical lines, layered under a rich, mottled glaze of earthy cream, sandy ochre, and deep iron brown. Its Brutalist-influenced style showcases the raw, rugged beauty and dramatic glaze pools characteristic of post-war Scandinavian art pottery.
Crafted from heavy, coarse stoneware, the dish emphasizes the interplay between smooth, glossy glaze fields and unglazed, sand-textured ceramic surfaces. Turning the piece over to inspect the raw, ochre-colored clay underside reveals an impressed Axella factory stamp reading "AXELLA design STENTØJ" along with the incised model number "1920", verifying its authentic Danish artisan heritage.
This highly graphic art object makes an exceptional centerpiece tray on a vintage teak credenza, a functional catchall bowl on an entryway console table, or a sculptural display piece within a curated gallery wall arrangement. Its grounding color palette and bold geometric textures seamlessly anchor organic modern, bohemian, or eclectic interior design styles.
