Measuring approximately 6.25 x 4.25 inches, this genuine wood veneer menu postcard advertises Eaton\'s Chicken House, located at 700 East 45th Street (at Atlantic) in Long Beach, California. Printed directly on a thin wooden sheet, the front serves as both a restaurant advertisement and menu, featuring the house specialty \"Glorifying the American Chicken\" dinner along with steaks, shrimp, soups, desserts, and beverages complete with period pricing.
The reverse was used through the mail and retains its original 3ยข Statue of Liberty postage stamp along with a handwritten travel message mentioning Portland, Oregon. It is addressed to J. R. Gardner at Denver, Colorado, adding postal-history interest to an already unusual restaurant collectible.
Wooden postcards were popular novelty souvenirs during the mid-20th century, but examples combining a restaurant menu, California advertising, and genuine postal use are encountered far less frequently. An attractive piece of Long Beach restaurant history, roadside Americana, menu ephemera, and wooden postcard memorabilia.
