Original Vintage 1950s T Pittari\'s Restaurant Menu 4200 So Claiborne Avenue New Orleans Louisiana
Anthony Pittari opened his restaurant in 1895 at Washington and Magazine, and in 1948 it moved to 4200 South Claiborne Avenue, filling nearly the whole block under a giant neon sign. T. Pittari\'s was famous for Maine lobster — some two thousand a month in its heyday — and for a wild-game menu that ran to hippopotamus and lion, with nephew Thomas Pittari Sr. and then Tom Jr. carrying the family institution forward. The floods of May 1978 and April 1980 each put two feet of water in the dining room; the family sold, a Mandeville relocation failed within a year, and the Claiborne block was razed.
