Estate scrapbook material relating to Richard P. Newell of Hopedale, Massachusetts, consisting of several original black-paper scrapbook pages measuring approximately 11 x 13.75 inches along with loose photographs and newspaper clippings. The group appears to center on Newell\'s World War II-era military service and family life, with a mix of uniformed portraits, candid snapshots, naval images, social photographs, and hometown-related material.
A particularly notable item is the original newspaper clipping titled \"Lt. Newell, Hopedale, In Series of Combat Flights,\" describing Lt. Richard P. Newell\'s service as a navigator aboard a C-47 during combat operations in Europe. The scrapbook also contains photographs of Newell in uniform, family and friends, school-age groups with handwritten identifications, baseball team images, residential scenes, and several naval photographs showing shipboard equipment and operations.
Some photographs retain handwritten captions or identifications on the fronts and backs. The scrapbook pages show edge wear, losses, and age-related deterioration typical of old black-paper albums, but the photographs generally appear well preserved. An excellent genealogical and local-history grouping connecting a named Massachusetts serviceman to wartime and postwar family photographs.
