1940s WWII Wounded Veterans Uline Arena Washington DC Autry Rodeo Original PhotoVintage WWII Wounded Veterans at Uline Arena Original Photo — Washington, D.C.
Up for sale is an original vintage black-and-white publicity photograph capturing a moving historical moment outside the historic Uline Arena (later known as the Washington Coliseum) in Washington, D.C., during the mid-1940s.
The image features a large group of wounded World War II American servicemen—several on crutches and wearing tactical Ike jackets and overseas service caps—gathered outside the arena entrance. They are accompanied by officials, including a member of the Almas Temple Shriners wearing a traditional embroidered velvet fez hat.
The scene is packed with rich historical backdrop details, including a massive billboard advertisement for the Gene Autry Rodeo ("Most Thrilling Show on Earth! Courtesy of Republic Pictures") and a brick-wall poster advertising the annual Almas Temple Shrine Circus running from Feb. 8–14. The architectural marquee of Uline Arena is visible down the right side of the building.
The reverse side of the print features an official vintage commercial stamp reading:
"Publicity CAMERA CRAFT Pictures / CREDIT LINE Associated Photo Service" alongside a stamped production number 427 B.
