1930s STANAVO Eagle Standard Oil Airplane
8x10 Photo NC11753 Esso Aviation
Standard Oil's STANAVO Eagle, NC11753 - 8x10 Archive PrintDESCRIPTIONAn 8x10 photographic print of a Standard Oil Company aircraft finished in the striking "Stanavo Eagle" promotional livery, registration NC11753, with an eagle's head painted on the engine cowling, an ESSO oval decal, and bold STANAVO lettering set against feathered eagle-wing paint along the leading edge. Standard Oil marketed its Stanavo aviation fuel and oil brand through a small fleet of company aircraft finished in these eagle themed schemes during the 1930s, using them as flying billboards at airfields and air race meets around the country, a well documented advertising practice of the era. This print comes from the McDonnell Douglas Corporation's St. Louis photo archive, pulled from a period negative and printed in 1979, so it is an official company archival reprint rather than a period contemporary original, and it is represented and priced accordingly. The verso carries the MDC St. Louis rubber stamp dated November 29, 1979 along with a "negatives not filed" notation, plus a stamped return address for Donald and Barbara Aitken of Irvine, California... this piece comes from the Aitken Collection, a large lot of vintage aviation photography assembled by a longtime collector. Images were scanned at 600dpi, so every detail of the eagle artwork and lettering comes through clearly. Please review all images closely, as they are part of the description. Every effort is made toward fact checking and provenance, including background research through news and historical archives. If any listing is incorrect in any way and you're unsatisfied with the item, please connect with me and I'll make it right. Orders placed before Noon CDT will ship same day Ground Advantage with tracking so you know exactly when it will arrive. Returns accepted on all items exceeding $25 in cost. Rigid, professional packaging on all shipments, sealed and protected in acid free protectors. Shipping is free and already built into the price, so the BIN price is exactly what you pay, no surprise shipping costs at checkout.CONDITIONOverall good archival print condition. Sharp image with strong contrast, and the eagle nose art, ESSO decal, and STANAVO wing lettering all read clearly. Verso shows the period-appropriate MDC St. Louis rubber stamp, date stamp, and Aitken return address stamp, consistent with its stated 1979 archival printing and provenance. Please review all photos closely, as they show the actual print you will receive and any handling wear visible in the images should be considered part of the item's condition.
