This is for the travel diary, 32 pages of text and some additional pages of cutouts. The cardstock covered handwritten book measures approx 11.25\"x9.25\". All pages shown.
As noted on the first page, it mentions the Amblers coming from England, as this is from the Ambler estate. Maybe the Bridgeport Connecticut address.
Here is a rough translation of page 1:
A little souvenir of my second trip to Europe – May 2 – July 17 – 1930
\"May 2 – The afternoon I found Miss Pakenham & myself en route for New York – there we stayed for nine hrs before the “Ile de France.” Mr. Pakenham met us at the pier. Customs allowed us our baggage – the same \"Adratic\" tag both we arrived from & carried to Paris.
After which we went across to the Church Pier, walking on the launch, and we docked 403 late in Lafayette. We called both about an hour before midnight, dining as hundred others, which made quite confusion, & we got to our beds.
Met a Miss Palmer (South America) whom I liked very much! Her seat was with me at the table – talked me into steward or waiter – did me more favors and afterward – Mr. Sanders at Le Havre.
Same Sunday morning, May 4, Miss Palmer helped me through the customs – as my baggage was not opened at all. My impression of the Avenue de l\'Opéra just as in the movies.
In Paris, was greatly interested in the gold things of Normandy – esp. the Amblers and the truth, coming over to England in 1066 with William of Normandy. Mr. Geier met us at the train & we took the Réginan ???
