A charming antique panoramic birthday postcard featuring two bluebirds perched among yellow blossoms with the message:
“For Your Birthday —
May these birds of heaven’s hue bring lasting happiness to you.”
Postmarked Elkton, Ohio – August 15, 1919, just after the end of World War I, when bluebird imagery became a symbol of hope and renewed happiness. Long format postcards like this were designed to be displayed on mantels and parlor tables and are now sought by ephemera collectors.
Handwritten message wishing the recipient a happy 84th birthday adds wonderful personal history.
