1900s Antique Ottoman Turkish Solar System Chart Sun Planets Diagram Atlas Map
A hand-colored Ottoman Turkish astronomical diagram titled \"Şems\" (The Sun), part of a school geography atlas. The chart shows the solar system in concentric colored rings, with the Sun at center surrounded by the orbits of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (labeled in Ottoman Turkish as Utarid, Zühre, Arz, Mirih, Müşteri, Zühal, Uranüs, and Neptün). Each planet is accompanied by printed data on diameter (in kilometers), rotation period, and orbital period. The left margin includes small illustrated portraits of the ringed planet Saturn and other bodies with their statistics. Rare educational astronomy plate reflecting how the solar system was taught in Ottoman-era classrooms.
Astronomical charts in Ottoman Turkish are scarce compared to geographic maps, making this a desirable piece for collectors of Islamic scientific literature, Ottoman education history, and early 20th-century celestial cartography.
Measures 18 x 15 centimeters (~approx.)
