Original 1885 Oneida County Treasurer’s Office letter from Rome, New York, on ornate printed county letterhead. John R. Edwards is identified as Treasurer.
The letter is addressed to Bentley & Jones and concerns land sold by the Treasurer for taxes. The clearly readable portions state that a piece of land was “sold by the Treas for taxes in 1880” and that it was subsequently redeemed during the year. It also refers to another piece sold for taxes, identified as 602-29 acres in “Gouverneur’s Tract” and says it was bought by John Wells for a tax amount of $39.00. The letter references Dec. 12, 1882 in connection with Wells.

Includes the original printed return envelope reading “J. R. EDWARDS, TREASURER OF THE COUNTY OF ONEIDA, ROME, N.Y.” and addressed to Bentley & Jones. Envelope has substantial loss/tearing along the right side.
