🇫🇷 WWII Free French Aviation Services Badge Arthus-Bertrand Paris Déposé
Authentic World War II Free French Forces aviation services badge, manufactured by Arthus-Bertrand, Paris, with the correct “Bertrand Paris Déposé” maker marking on the reverse. This is an original wartime piece, not a postwar souvenir or reproduction.
The design features a stylized mythological bird with raised wing, symbolizing renewal and resistance, combined with a service horn enclosing the Cross of Lorraine, the defining emblem of the Forces Françaises Libres (Free French Forces). A single floral element appears within the central motif, executed in correct wartime style and consistent with Free French symbolic imagery.
This badge represents Free French aviation technical, administrative, or support services, not pilot or aircrew wings. Such insignia were worn by Soldiers supporting Free French aviation operations during the latter part of WWII, primarily in the 1942–1944 period.
Arthus-Bertrand was one of France’s premier military insignia manufacturers, and wartime Free French examples bearing the Paris Déposé mark are increasingly difficult to find, making this a strong collector-grade piece of original French WWII militaria.
