Okay...
THIS is why the squirrels keep digging through boxes of old knives. 😂🐿️
Every once in a while they drag something into the Nest that's a little more interesting than another rusty mystery knife.
This is an antique REMINGTON UMC two-blade serpentine jack pocket knife featuring an original-style oval advertising shield reading:
CURTISS
Baby Ruth
CANDY-GUM
And no, unfortunately there wasn't a 100-year-old candy bar hidden inside the handle.
The squirrels checked. 😂
• Antique Remington UMC pocket knife
• R1823-pattern serpentine jack
• 2-blade configuration
• Curtiss Baby Ruth Candy-Gum advertising shield
• Dark jigged handle
• Rounded metal bolsters
• Brass-colored liners/pins
• Remington UMC tang stamp
• Made in USA
• Approximately 1920s-era advertising knife
IMPORTANT:
There is NO visible R1823 pattern number stamped on this particular knife.
Collector references document Remington advertising versions of this pattern without the pattern number, including the Baby Ruth variation.
We're identifying the PATTERN from documented Remington examples — we're not claiming there's an invisible number hiding somewhere because a squirrel said so. 😂🐿️
🍫 A VERY COOL PIECE OF ADVERTISING HISTORY 🍫
These knives were produced as advertising/premium pieces and the Baby Ruth version used a special Curtiss Candy Company shield.
That makes this one interesting to TWO different groups of collectors:

Apparently the squirrels have finally figured out diversification. dir="ltr" style="margin-top:0; margin-bottom:0;">🐿️ MECHANICS 🐿️
✅ BOTH BLADES SNAP
⚠️ BLADES ARE DULL
⚠️ Blades show considerable vintage use/wear
We are NOT claiming the blades are unused, factory edge, mint or anything else that a nearly century-old working knife clearly isn't.
THIS KNIFE HAS A CRACK IN THE HANDLE.
The crack is located toward the rear end of the advertising-shield side and runs through/around the pin area.
PLEASE SEE THE CLOSE-UP PHOTOS.
Other visible condition includes:
• Blade wear
• Scratches
• Dull cutting edges
• Patina / discoloration
• Bolster scratches and wear
• Handle wear
• Age-related marks
• General signs of many years of use
This is an ANTIQUE COLLECTIBLE in used condition.
It has survived roughly a century.
At that age, we're giving it credit just for showing up. 😂🐿️
We have NOT attempted to aggressively polish or restore the knife.
Photos are an IMPORTANT part of the description and show the EXACT knife you will receive.
PLEASE pay particular attention to the photographed HANDLE CRACK, blade wear, handles, bolsters, tang stamps and Baby Ruth advertising shield.
Nothing is being hidden.
The squirrels may be questionable businessmen...
But they're honest questionable businessmen. 😂🐿️
