The USS Vega (AF-59) was a Mars-class combat stores ship of the US Navy, commissioned on 9 August 1955. During the Vietnam War, Vega played a crucial role in providing logistical support to US forces in the region. Her duties included transporting and delivering supplies, ammunition, and equipment to ships and bases supporting American operations in Vietnam.
Vega\'s service during the war involved numerous deployments to the Western Pacific (WESTPAC), where she supported operations in Vietnam and the surrounding waters. As a combat stores ship, Vega was responsible for replenishing the supplies of other naval vessels, ensuring they had the necessary provisions to continue their missions.
After the war, Vega continued her service, supporting naval operations around the world. She was eventually decommissioned on 29 June 1992 and struck from the Naval Vessel Register the same day. Following her decommissioning, the USS Vega was transferred to the Maritime Administration for layup in the National Defense Reserve Fleet.
