Rome of the Tuscania.Anchor Line, purchased by Cunard in 1911, had a history of struggling especially during the depression years of the early 1930s. In 1935 Cunard withdrew, and shipping magnate Lord Runciman saved the company. The magazine gives excerpts from a rousing speech by Runciman to the crew and Anchor Line employees aboard the Tuscaniaabout keeping expenditures down, avoiding waste, and taking pride in their work. He said, \"Let me state from the quarter-deck, as an old sailing ship commander, what our policy shall be....... I am a good fellow to work with, but I still know how to use some quarter-deck language\". The magazine has some other interesting articles, including one on the Loch Ness Monster.**NOTE** - At the start of WWII the British Admiralty requisitioned the Translyvania as an armed merchant cruiser. In 1940 the German submarine U-56 torpedoed and sank the Translyvania, killing 36. The line continued to struggle, and their last ships were withdrawn from service in 1980.
